House Cleaning Tips for Windows
With the advent of tilt-in widows, cleaning them has become much easier than it used to be. If you don't have these types of windows, keeping them looking nice is a little more difficult, but not impossible, though. Here are a few window cleaning tips for both types.
Cleaning tips for tilt-in windows
Thank goodness for tilt-in windows! They have made cleaning them not such a dreaded chore, but still a necessary one. The easiest way to clean this type of window is to tilt the top pane in, then spray with either a commercial cleaner or you can simply use white vinegar. Get the pane wet but not dripping, then wipe with a lint-free cloth (newspaper works just as well). One of the most helpful cleaning tips for this type of window is to dry them horizontally on one side, then vertically on the other, that way you can tell which sides the streaks are on. Once you've finished the top pane, move on to the bottom.
Cleaning tips for traditional windows
The cleaning tips for traditional windows are similar to those for the tilt-in type, including drying them at different angles. The only way to get these type of windows clean inside and out is to hire someone. However, here are some ways to help you keep your traditional windows looking good between cleanings. The best way to clean the outside is to open the bottom sash and reach up as far as you can. Then open the top sash (if possible), and reach down. You may not be able to do this, so if not, a garden hose on the outside of the house can do wonders. One other tip is to work on a slightly cloudy day. If you choose too much of a sunny day, you risk streaks; the cleaner will dry before you have a chance to wipe it up.
