- Box pleats: Hand-sewn heading of flat pleats at the front of a curtain
- Goblet pleats: Hand-sewn heading made of rounded pleats; this window treatment design can add an elegant look to a curtain
- Heading: The finish at the top of a curtain or shade window treatment
- Lined panel shades: Similar to a Roman shade, but has a softer look and has sculpted folds near the window bottom; it is lined and does not have the series of rods and pockets found with a Roman shade.
- Lining: A fabric, usually made from cotton or polyester, used to line the back of curtains and shades
- Pelmet: A sturdy panel that hides the top of the window treatment
- Piping: A neat finish for the edge of a window treatment
- Recess window: A window that is set back into the wall
- Roman shade: Panels of fabric that fit flat against the window and can be raised with a cord to let light in
- Selvage: The edge of a piece of fabric
- Shutters: Window treatments that have two sides, typically arranged vertically; each side can be pulled open, and each shutter contains slats that open and close
- Window blinds: Window treatments that have vertical or horizontal slats that can be opened and closed to let light in; horizontal window blinds often are called mini blinds
