Bedroom Furniture and Decoration No-Nos
- Huge fitted wardrobes and cupboards taking up a whole wall: The height of 80's bedroom furniture chic. They do seem like a good idea, but most of the space is inaccessible, they shrink a room and are a "clutter magnet." Go on and have a look, you know that yours are full of junk. Replace them with some classy freestanding wardrobes and a matching dressing table or chest of drawers.
- Upholstered headboards: I'm going to say one thing here--stains. Far better to go for a modern take and suspend pretty pillows from a pole or frame. You can take them down and wash or dry-clean them when necessary.
- Cuddly toys: They collect dust, and can harbor all sorts of nasties like dust-mites. Anyway, how old are you?
- Chintzy wallpaper: These once-popular wallpaper patterns are far too busy. Plain, unfussy walls are relaxing and easy on the eye, both when you fall asleep and when you wake up.
- Frilly bed linen: Think of all that ironing! Housewife pillowcases are a little on the dull side, check out some really smart trimmed Oxford style. They look luxurious, but are far easier to launder. They are simple to make too, if you are on a budget.
- Ceiling lights. Make sure you go for a lampshade or cover which hides the light bulb. Looking up from bed and being blinded when your spouse switches on the light is not a pleasant experience.
So there you have it. Some ideas on how to transform your nightmare, with a little imaginative bedroom decoration. Sweet dreams!
