There is a lot more to today's kitchen cabinets than meets the eye. Many kitchen cabinets are sold with an almost endless supply of accessories and gadgets designed to make using the kitchen more fun.
Kitchen Cabinets Designed for Convenience
During a kitchen remodeling, look for ways to make your kitchen design easier to use. This involves taking a cold, hard look at how you use the cabinets - and splurging on some nice accessories. Consider adding:- Roll-out drawers for storing pots and pans.
- A flip-down ledge at the front of the kitchen sink for holding sponges
- Cabinets with built-in bins that are designated for recycling and garbage.
- Televisions that are built into the cabinetry and flip down when not in use.
- Warming drawers or refrigerated drawers designed into the cabinets.
- A built-in microwave over the range.
Cabinet Accessories for the True Cook
Anyone who cooks knows the frustration of having to open three different cabinets to get the spices and cooking utensils you need. As you plan your kitchen design, think about how to best organize the space. Among the cabinet options are:- Vertical spice rack cabinets that are three to six inches wide and fit between two base cabinets.
- Deep cabinet drawers for holding all those utensils, including oversized and awkward sized ones.
- Cabinets with roll-out drawers, which are great for storing pots and pans.
- A pot filler kitchen faucet along the wall behind a stove.
- A kitchen faucet with a pull-out sprayer.
Designate Cabinets for Small Kitchen Appliances
If you spend a lot of time cooking and baking, you probably have four or five small kitchen appliances. Instead of trying to wedge them into a base cabinet, design a space for them. Many cabinet manufacturers make cabinets designed for kitchen appliances, such as mixers and blenders. Consider:- Adding a base cabinet with a mixer shelf that raises and lowers the mixer when needed.
- Installing kitchen appliance "garages" on the countertop that pull down to hide appliances and other items.
- Adding a Lazy Susan in a corner cabinet to help retrieve stored items.
Consider Extra Cabinet Costs
While all these kitchen design features are fun to have, there often is an added cost. The costs can range from $200 for a kitchen faucet to $800 for a warming drawer to several thousand dollars for cabinets with all the bells and whistles. Discuss your wish list with your remodeling contractor and decide what's reasonable.About the Author
