Selecting an Appliance Color
Renovators Place Columnist
Oct 08, 2009
Red. Blue. Green. Stainless. Appliances no longer have to be white, black, beige or boring.
While the neutral colors remain popular, bold colors are becoming a big trend in upscale appliances. Look for that trend to start filtering down to the masses. The key to color selection is personal preference and the colors used in the rest of the home.
Whether you want a daring red of a more traditional white, here are a few suggestions:
Blend the appliance colors with the interior
trim
Keep a theme consistent throughout the house. White or black appliances blend well with white trim and doors. Or, consider almond or biscuit appliances with oak trim.
Tie the color selection to the kitchen
cabinetry, floor and countertop
Try cherry cabinets with white appliances for a contrast or maple cabinets with almond or bisque appliances for a blended look. Some like to add stainless steel appliances to bring in a more industrial style.
Stick with one color or mix very carefully
Some renovators will take black appliances and add white front panels, but be careful of mixing too much. A white dishwasher, black refrigerator and almond range would look disjointed.
