Selecting a Gas Fireplace
Renovators Place Columnist
Oct 08, 2009
Gas fireplaces come in a variety of sizes and shapes. As you shop for one, consider the following:
· The size and layout of the room
· Your color scheme
· Your lifestyle
· Your budget
Creating a Focal Point
Your fireplace can create a dramatic focal point for a room, whether it is the living room, kitchen or bedroom. Make sure the design blends with the overall style of the room and, in some cases, adjoining rooms.
In a rustic home with exposed wood beams, look for a stone fireplace with a chimney that extends to the ceiling. In a contemporary home consider a fireplace built into the kitchen island with a shiny metal enclosure.
Where to Put One?
Most home owners put fireplaces in their living rooms, although the kitchen, den and master bedroom offer two other options. Another option is to add one as part of an entertainment center.
What About Two-Sided
Designs?
If you want the style that opens to two adjacent rooms, make sure the style blends with each room. Also, realize that they styles cost about the same as two fireplaces!
