Trying to save money on your water and energy bill? No need to replace those old appliances. Try these tips instead:
For the Washer
- Use lower temperature settings and save the hot water for grease stains and other extreme conditions.
- Wash full loads. With smaller loads, use the appropriate water-level setting.
- Insulate hot-water pipes
- Keep the washer near the water heater.
For the Dryer
- Dry two or more loads in a row to take advantage of residual heat in the dryer.
- Dry similar clothing types together to prevent over drying and wasting energy.
- Dry full loads when possible
- Don't overfill the dryer, as clothes will take longer to dry without space to tumble.
- Check the outside dryer vent for lint clogs or possible air filtration.
- Locate the dryer in a heated space
- Use an indoor drying rack when possible
- Clean the lint filter frequently to improve air circulation.
