Retaining Wall Materials
The increasing popularity of retaining walls and other "decorative" designs has resulted in a more expansive array of products and materials.
When deciding what materials to use consider:
· will the project be completed by a professional, or is it a weekend, do-it-yourself project
· the complexity of the project
· the durability of the project
· your budget
· the "look" of the exterior of the home -- what color is the house and is it a brick, wood or stucco house
Local home improvement centers typically carry an assortment of retaining wall products.
Pick your color
These products generally come in three or four colors -- red, gray and natural stone. There are likely to be variations in colors, particularly between the red and the gray; maybe even a mix of colors.
Pick your size
Typically there are two sizes of the "bricks," to accommodate different types and sizes of projects and different sizes of yard. For example, if you are wanting to add some definition to a side yard flower bed, you may select the small bricks which look less intimidating.
The bricks generally have a textured front,
and a slight bend or arc to them. This helps in creating curved wall designs.
The bricks also have a slight lip on the bottom to make it easier for stacking.
