Wondering how you'll get through your list of house projects without going crazy? Try our 2-Hour Rule. Take some control and break down your projects into manageable segments
- make a list
- break up each project into portions that can be finished in 2 hours or less
The beauty of this approach is that you can look around the room at all the unfinished work and just say, "I'm done. I've worked for 2-hours!"
Ideas for 2-hour projects:
Painting can be divided into:
- washing the walls
- caulking, patching holes, etc.
- priming
- painting the ceiling, then trim, then one or two walls in each time slot
General Remodeling:
- Look for design/product ideas -- cut out pictures, print out info
- Bathroom Tile

measure
area, decide number of bull nose tiles (for edges), ideas for decorative tiles
inserts, etc.

shop
for tile
·
demo
area
·
clean
and prep, smooth out area
·
inspect
box of tile, layout tile design to make sure you have enough of various sizes(before
you install!)

in segments, depending on area
Organizing:
- your tool box or paint area in the basement ( . . . be careful, this one can easily lead your astray)
- your closet
- a few kitchen cabinets (clean one day; then add removable shelves, dividers)
- installing 2-4 shelves
- cleaning out one, two or three drawers
- old photos, then framing them or putting them in an album
Repair/Replace/Refinishing
- strip, then staining furniture in segments
- wall repair
· wash walls
· add mud to cracks, repair larger holes with drywall
· sand
· prime
· paint
- replace a faucet or sink
- hang window blinds/shades
- hem fabric to
drape over curtain rods
