Natural Stone Finishes

You have determined that your entryway floor should be
granite rather than marble. You think the kitchen floor would look better with
travertine, not slate. The colors, too, have been chosen.
Now there is only one last choice to make … the finished
look of the natural stone.
Finishes
Stones are sold in three types of finishes:
·
Polished
·
Honed
·
Tumbled
Polished
A polished finish has a shiny, contemporary style and is
designed to draw attention to the area. The stone will show fingerprints and
other marks more easily because of its reflective finish.
Honed
Honed stones have a muted look with no reflection. They are
used to create a more subtle, natural look. "I think you'll find more
younger families going with hones stones because it's less maintenance,"
said Mark Farrahar, president of Reese Classic Residences, a custom builder
based in Kildeer, IL.
Tumbled
Tumbled stones have a worn, aged look from sand hitting the
stones as they tumble together in a cylinder. It is geared toward the
traditional home.
