Here are some tips for making the most of your remodeling dollars:

Do Quick Facelifts -- with painting, wallpapering and small accessories. A fresh coat of paint, a new rug and some bright pillows will do wonders for a space. And, it shouldn't consume your whole weekend. Click here to visit our painting section.

Use Optical Illusions to Add Space -- Add mirrors, use light colors and large ceramic tiles to make a space look larger. Consider a skylight in a bathroom, vaulted ceilings, and transom windows above a doorway to add light and volume.

Steal Space -- from a linen closet to expand a bathroom, from a pantry to create a bathroom. Look around for nooks and crannies than can be used more efficiently. Don’t forget to look up. Are you using all of the vertical space in your closet? A few extra shelves can make a huge difference.

Reuse what you can -- Whether it's a light fixture or faucet or moving your old kitchen cabinets to create a workspace in the basement, it all adds up. Before you throw them out, consider where else they can fit.

Change One Thing -- a new faucet or sink or wall tile design can be a quick, easy and inexpensive project that gives a good return on the investment. Click here for our faucet and sink section!

Don't Move Walls and Other Major Building Components -- Structural changes will quickly increase a budget. Look for creative ways to work around load bearing walls and existing plumbing lines.
