Here's how to get the most out of replacement windows companies

Ask around. Now is the time to be a nosy neighbor. Check out your neighbor's windows. Ask them if they were they pleased with the work, and if it was completed on time and in budget. If your neighbor's had a problem, suggestion or complaint, how did the window replacement company deal with it?
Find deals. Sometimes window updates can be had at bargain basement prices. Look for deals such as "pay for the front, get the back free." Do be careful about an inflated price to start with.
Seasonal sales. Certain times of year can be pretty quiet for window replacement companies. If it is not too inconvenient for you, you could get a great deal by getting window updates during vacation seasons like August or Thanksgiving.
Guarantees. Some guarantees really are not worth the paper they are written on. Check the small print for items like "materials guaranteed for 10 years," check that labor is included. Some companies can make a real killing by charging much more than the going rate for repairs "under guarantee."
Spread payments. Large companies may offer credit arrangements to spread costs. Some of these can be excellent deals, but compare total costs with bank rates and the cost of a home improvement loan or extended mortgage.
Let your home be the star! Some companies are keen to use private houses to showcase their replacement windows. Discounts can be had if you are prepared to be involved in promotional events, literature, or even to show an agreed number of prospective buyers around on behalf of the window update company.
Style and type. If you need replacement windows anyway, then double glazing can be an economical option. Do make sure that the style is in keeping with the rest of your property. An unsympathetic window update can decrease the value of your home.

Finally don't sign up on the spot, because "this offer is only available today."
