Home decorating magazines are inspiring, but there are often less expensive ways
to achieve these high-end designer looks. Some things, however, are worth the
extra money.
Home decorating ideas look perfect in magazines because they are done professionally. Do take professional advice - your decorator should have experience of what works and what doesn't. He or she has probably restored other people's DIY mistakes, so discuss your home decorating ideas first.

Can Cutting Corners Cut Costs?
The short answer to that is "no." It is always better to spend your budget on professional labor and good quality products. So how do you do it?- Cheap Paint. Cheap paint is more difficult to work with than quality paint, so what little you save will probably cost you dearly in labor charges. Get quality products that only require one or two coats. The same is true of oil-based paint. Cheap paint discolors and deteriorates quickly, requiring frequent touch-ups.
- Wallpaper. We've all done it. We've fallen in love with one we've seen in a home decorating magazine, and then calculate the cost. It's usually shocking. Why not save some money by papering only one wall and painting the others? You could also put in a dado rail and just paper underneath it. You'll get the same effect, but at a fraction of the cost.
- Curtains. Unless you've been round this loop before, you'll undoubtedly be blown away by the cost of curtain fabric. One alternative is to use less material by making them "skinny" or short. Neither looks stylish. How about this for a cost-effective home decorating idea? Use your fabric to make full-length swags, but cover the window with a blind. Alternatively, use plain fabric, but use expensive tiebacks and trims. Home decorating magazines, can give you ideas for designs.
