Choosing the color of your building is an important one and you should know that you have several options. With fiber cement siding most of the time they come from the factory already primed and painted with a preset color. These are usually the most common colors chosen and the company strives to keep the palate relevant.

Painting Your Own Color of Fiber Cement Siding

There are cases where the siding comes without any color and all and the company leaves the priming and painting to the contractor or purchaser. Depending on the contractor the painting maybe included in the price or an additional fee. A good question to ask would be, "If I decide to paint it myself would that affect the warrantee of the siding?" Sometimes it will severely shorten the warrantee if the company that installs the siding does not also paint it. Keep in mind that if the siding comes from the factory painted already they will have had an industrial machine to do it. This means an even layer of paint and it has undergone quality testing. If you or the contractor paints it, which is still a fine option if you want it, the evenness may be compromised. There are power sprayers available at your local hardware store that makes painting your house much easier. There are special paints that are made for outdoor projects. It would be a good idea to ask if there are certain paints that need to be used on fiber cement siding. Also, check to see if you would need to prime before painting or put a top coat on after painting. Depending on the paint, sometimes these steps are already added into the paint.
