Fiber cement siding is a durable, good quality siding that can last you as long at 50 years without needing to be replaced. The best way to keep your fiber cement siding looking good and in the best shape possible you will need to take time to clean and inspect it. Unless you live in an area where a lot of tree limbs, leaves or dirt hit your home on a regular basis, cleaning only really needs to happen once a year.
Using the Right Tools for Cleaning Fiber Cement Siding
The best and easiest way to clean your fiber cement siding is with a power washer. This can be purchased from any local hardware store and has many uses outside of just cleaning your siding. Before you begin the cleaning process take a look around your home and inspect the siding. Are there any places that need to be fixed up before you clean? Is there any large debris that needs to be cleared away by hand before turning on the power washer? And lastly, does the shrubbery touch the house and need to be trimmed back? If you have trees near your home it is a good idea to keep them pruned where they don't touch the siding.
Now you are ready to start cleaning you can use basic household cleaners to clean the fiber cement siding. Just take a gallon of water to one cup of household bleach and add 2 tablespoons of dish detergent and you are all set. Start from the top of your house and work your way down. You will want to use low pressure, if something is not coming off with low pressure then stop and get the debris off by hand.
