The Cost of Landscaping Design
If you are creating a major landscaping plan, you might hire a landscape designer or landscape architect. Their fees can range from $200 to draw a landscaping plan with suggested plants and shrubs to $3,000 to $10,000 or more to draw a landscaping plan, buy the plant material, and install it. Any landscaping professional you hire should:- Spend time walking around your yard
- Ask you questions about how you use the yard and what is important to you
- Talk about the fees, your budget, and options for doing the landscaping plan in stages
- Show you pictures of their landscaping work and provide a list of references
Among the common landscaping costs are:
- Trees - range from $50 for a small plum tree to $100 for a medium size arborvitae. Premium trees, such as the Japanese maple range from $250 to $600.
- Shrubs - range from $15 for a small boxwood to $150 for a medium-size yew
- Perennials - range from $5 to $25 each, depending on the type and size. If you have patience and want to save money, start with smaller plants for your flower garden. Also consider growing plants from seed.
- Vines - range from $5 to $75, depending on the type and size. When buying a slow growing vine, it is worth your while to spend more on a larger size.
- Bird baths - range from $15 for a plastic model to $150 or more for stone or concrete.
- Fountains - range from $50 for tabletop models to $200 for freestanding plastic models to $500 or more for stone or concrete.
- Patios and Decks - $1,500 to $7,000 or more for an installed patio or deck. Patio costs depend on type of material; deck costs vary by size and shape.
