Designing with
ceramic floor tiles? Here are some ideas:
·
Combine a
neutral floor tile with a border or medallion that has richer colors and a
rough texture. The texture adds a different dimension to the floor and makes
the design more interesting.
·
Try randomly
spaced 16-inch by 24-inch tiles, 16-by16-inch tiles and 8-inch by 8-inch tiles.
The floor will resemble a puzzle, with different size pieces grouped together.
·
Create a focal
point by adding a border of contrasting tile underneath your kitchen table.
Extend the border outward from the table about 6 to 12 inches from where the chairs will be placed. This
will frame the area.
·
In a bathroom,
create a throw rug effect with tile in the center of the room, under a
decorative fixture, or in front of a vanity. Turn them on an angle or use
smaller tiles in contrasting colors or tones.
·
Look for tiles
that have a few variations within each pattern. You may have to pay a little
more, but it will look more authentic.
