Looking for a Creative Way to Lay Tile?
Consider staggering the layout of the tiles. Here are two approaches:
Arrange the middle of one tile so that it abuts the grout line of another. You can use the same size tile or mix and match with different sizes to create an interesting pattern.
Here's
how:
--Lay down a row of 8-inch by 8-inch tiles
--In the next row, offset the tiles by four inches
--Mix in smaller tile size to further distinguish the look
Turn the tiles on an angle to create a diamond pattern throughout the floor. Use two shades of the same color or two contrasting colors.
Here's
how:
--Lay a row of beige 12-inch by 12-inch tiles on their side
so they create diamonds
--In the next row, use white tiles turned like diamonds
--For a subtle look, use the darker color every 4 - 6 rows
--For a more dramatic look, use it in every other row
--Put a border around the main floor design, as this helps
define the space.
The Benefit: A staggered look will break up the continuous grout lines and focus attention on the tile instead of a grid pattern.
