Caring for Your Wood Floors

What's
the best way to maintain your wood floors? Start
by keeping water and dirt away from them. Here are other tips:
·
Never put water on a
wood floor. Water and wood DO NOT mix well! Water will dull the finish, damage
and discolor the wood.
·
Vacuum your
floors often -- 2-3 times a week in a heavy traffic area. Dirt
is one of the worst enemies of wood. Keep it clean!
·
Wipe up spills
immediately with a slightly damp towel. Wipe it dry!
·
Never use products
designed for tile or vinyl floors on wood. Waxes will cause wood to become
slippery and appear dull.
·
Use throw rugs at
doorway entrances to help keep dirt from getting on the floor.
·
Put plastic or fabric glides under
the legs of furniture to prevent scuffing.
·
Never slide
furniture across the floor -- lift it instead.
·
In the kitchen, place an area rug
in front of the sink to catch spills.
Be careful of colorful rugs with dyes that might run.
·
In winter months, use a humidifier to keep wood shrinkage to
a minimum
