Add Style to Bathroom Design with His and Her Areas

Looking to add glamour and function to your bathroom? A bathroom design that features "his" and "her" bathing and washing areas is just the right touch.
Think Luxury in Bathroom Design
Today's bathroom remodeling projects often involve taking a dated room design and creating a luxurious spa-like environment. This type of setting can include two bathing and washing areas so that you can wash your hands in the bathroom sink without bumping into someone. There often are separate showering areas, too.
How Much Space for Bathroom Design?
When adding "his" and "her" areas to your bathroom design, start by deciding what type of space you need and how much. Do you want one shower and one bathtub? This is a common configuration that is both functional and visually appealing. Also consider whether you want:
- A bathroom design that flows from one area to another or has two distinct spaces
- Separate bathroom sinks or one long vanity with two bowls
- Toilets that are enclosed within a wall or half-wall
Plan Bathroom Design with Remodeling Contractor
When planning such a project, involve the remodeling contractor early in the process. This way you can determine:
- How much space you will need
- How large the bathroom design can be given the floor plan
- How this bathroom design will affect your budget
- Who will design the room -- the remodeling contractor, an architect or a bathroom designer?
Add Ceramic Tile for Emphasis
Ceramic tile can have a dramatic effect on the overall bathroom design in a "his" and "her" bathroom. The floor, wall, and shower tile can be coordinated so that it has:
- The same bathroom tile throughout each space for a clean, simple look
- Different yet complementary accent tiles in each area for subtle differences
- Contrasting bathroom tile colors in each area to add drama
