Who We Are

Renovators Place, Inc. is a multi-media news and information service and the leading source of information on home renovation and design. The company disseminates advice and information through traditional media (newspapers, magazines, radio, and television) and the Internet.

We offer an objective voice to help consumers weed through the myriad decision they face when renovating and designing their homes. Our content is editorially independent of any influence from manufacturers, contractors, designers or other industry participants.

The company was founded by Allison E. Beatty, a nationally syndicated real estate writer who has written about home renovation, new home construction and resale housing issues and trends since 1992. She currently writes two weekly columns - one on home renovation and the other on product and design choices -- for the Chicago Tribune. Her Renovators Place column also appears in the Reno Gazette-Journal in Nevada.

In addition, she and her husband, Michael Millar, spent two years renovating an 80-year-old house on Chicago's North Shore. As part of her "sweat equity," she gained the knowledge, skills and fortitude to handle the rigors of the Internet world. She also learned a thing or two about contractors who vanish in the night, the dangers of having skunks as tenants, and the back breaking joy of plaster repair.

Our other writers and editors bring similar expertise in the residential real estate industry.
